TRAC Sponsors Young Enterprise Awards

02 nd May TRAC Sponsors Young Enterprise Awards

For the eighth year, TRAC are sponsoring the Penzance based Young Enterprise Awards on Thursday May 4th. The awards will see students from throughout Cornwall showcase their business ideas and acumen to a panel of judges including TRAC’s co-founder, Sarah Trethowan. A year in the making, the students business ideas range from road safety clothing to an employment service for teenagers. Excitement is now building as the 2017 contenders add finishing touches to their pitches and prepare for the awards this week.

Young Enterprise is a UK wide charity that empowers young people to harness their personal and business skills. By making the connection between school and the world of work, young people develop the knowledge and attitudes that they need to succeed, including communication skills, confidence, financial capability, organisation, problem-solving and much more.

Continuing their eight year commitment to supporting Young Enterprise, TRAC’s Sarah Trethowan, also joined the celebration of young talent to judge at the spring Young Enterprise Trade Fair and will continue to lend her experience as a judge at the upcoming awards. At the spring Trade Fair, Sarah awarded the best business case and communication award to Cornish Sealight, a business who bring a little bit of the seaside into homes with their scented seashell candles. Sarah also awarded the business innovation award to Teenwork Cornwall, a business that brings both employers with vacancies and teenagers looking for work together, meeting the needs of both groups.

Sarah said:

“…There was a lot of talent at the fair in spring, making judging a challenge. It was clear to see these young entrepreneurs all have a very promising future ahead of them. The teams showed so much enthusiasm and dedication to succeed.  Having co-founded a successful business 15 years’ ago myself, I know this will stand them in very good stead. I have no doubt that those showcasing their work at the finals on the 4th May at St Johns Hall in Penzance will be equally as impressive…”
