TRAC’s Healthy Start to 2012
6th February 2012
TRAC has made a healthy start to the New Year after achieving the NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Silver Healthy Workplace Award. The award, which was first launched in February 2010, recognises the efforts of local employers who do that bit extra to look after their staff.
The scheme provides a tool kit to encourage companies to think about ways to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees in a wide range of health areas within ten award criteria.
Employers are able to apply for each stage of the bronze, silver or gold award scheme. This means they can build on their achievements and address issues within the workplace that best suit the nature of their business and the needs of their staff.
TRAC has developed a number of wellbeing schemes which include regular free fruit boxes and social events, stress management training, and healthy lunch days as well as developing an annual programme of monthly campaigns to help fully integrate the programme into the company.
“It is very clear and evident that there is a very supportive and open culture at TRAC and I am very impressed with the progress made; there is some real examples of good practice” said Rachel Faulkner Workplace Health Coordinator, who assessed the application.
Evidence shows that addressing health and wellbeing at work can help to deliver a wide range of long term improvements like achieving a healthy weight, improving mental health and reducing stress.
“This is fantastic news; I’m delighted that TRAC has been awarded Silver on our first application. We recognise TRAC‘s employees are a vital part of our success and already had a strong social contribution ethos, but working towards this award has helped cement our approach and created more involvement from our employees. We now have a small team of volunteers that will ensure we continue to build a healthier working environment. ” said Company Director Sarah Trethowan.
The Annual Healthy Workplace Awards Ceremony 2012 will take place on Friday, 2 March 2012 at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge.
