Mongol Rally - Crossing the Finish Line
7th September 2009
It took the team 27 days to complete the rally and they were the 13th car, out of 500, to cross the finish line. The project was a great success with nearly £5000 raised for charity.
In total they drove 8545 miles from Lands End to the Mongolian capitol Ulan Bator driving through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Rep, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and finally Mongolia.
Driving through Europe was quite simple, easy and regular road signs, tarmac roads and petrol stations that accepted credit cards. Once they hit the Ukraine the roads were very poor, with lots of potholes and a lack of sign posts! Then from Kazakhstan to Mongolia there were no roads and the average speed at times was only 20 mph. A normal day of driving would be 12-15 hours but sometimes it was necessary to drive through the night to stay on target. The car only just held out with help from people they meet on route including a free service from a guy in Kazakhstan.
We would like to congratulate the team on their amazing achievement and the amount of money they have raised as a result.
