Third Annual Graduate Careers Fair Set to Launch

1st November 2008

On Wednesday 12th November, the Tremough campus at Penryn held the third Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) Graduate Careers Fair – ‘Meet Your Future 2008’.

The fair has become an annual fixture in the academic calender, using the vast seminar and lecture space at the campus to house a diverse range of national and local employers, voluntary gap year organisations, postgraduate education providers and self employment advisors.

Open to all higher education students and graduates across the county, the fair saw hundreds of people taking their first step towards a successful career or finding the support to start their own business. Along with national and international employers, local companies such as TRAC Services Ltd in Tolvaddon signed up to be the first to meet the graduates and students who have gained their specialist knowledge and skills within Cornwall’s six outstanding universities and colleges. Sarah Trethowan, Company Director of Trac explains, “As a employeer of graduates we have attended the previous CUC Graduate career fairs and found them to be a great way of meeting furture potential employees as well as networking with other graduate employers. It’s great to see the event go from strength to strength as the number of opportunities for graduates in Cornwall continues to rise.”

In addition to over 50 exhibitors’ stands at the Careers Fair, a number of presentations were available for students and graduates to attend, delivered by speakers who are experts in their fields. A wide selection of topics was offered, from advice on routes into teaching, to careers in conservation, freelancing in television, careers in the marine industry and working as a professional contemporary artist. Other presentations gave specific information on graduate level opportunities such as the CUC’s graduate placement scheme, Unlocking Cornish Potential.

Jon Christie, Head of Careers at the Tremough campus, encouraged as many students and graduates as possible to attend, explaining, “As in previous years there will be a wide spectrum of exhibitors actively looking to recruit and capture the talent that is emerging from the ever expanding higher education provision in Cornwall. The event is free and we looking forward to welcoming hundreds of people to seek out their futures.“
