TRAC Helps Celebrate Young Enterprise Innovation

31st May 2012

TRAC was delighted to sponsor and present the Most Innovative Product category at this year’s Young Enterprise Cornwall Innovation Awards.

The Awards are now in their 5th year and recognise the achievements of groups of students from local secondary schools who have developed, launched and run their own businesses over the past 8 months.

The event took place on the 10th May 2012 at The Princess Pavilions, Falmouth and the winners were decided by a panel of 4 judges from the local business community. Richard Lander School took the title for overall winning company which means they will now go on to compete in the regional finals in Bristol on 25th June.

TRAC sponsored the ‘Most Innovative Product’ category for the second consecutive year and was delighted to present this year’s trophy to Newquay Tretherras School for their surfboard waxing combs.  “This is a fantastic product made from the leftover resin used to coat surf boards; as well as recycling materials the team have created a product that is also very cheap to produce, it’s a brilliant and innovative idea from a very enthusiastic team” said Natalie Hann Marketing Manager who presented the team with their award.

Katie Vage, young enterprise manager for Cornwall, said: "The judges were delighted with the quality of products this year.  Some teams already have solid plans to develop their products and businesses beyond the young enterprise scheme and this is a prime example of the entrepreneurial spirit being displayed by young people."

Created in 1963, Young Enterprise is the UK's largest business and enterprise education charity helping 250,000 young people learn about business and the world of work in the classroom every year.
